Great Bend
Significant Drill Results
Historic drilling at the Katie Prospect identified a volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) target, with results including: 10.7% Zn, 0.38% Pb, 0.196% Cu, 33.4 g/t Ag, and 1.13 g/t Au over 1.26 m.
Key Highlights
The property is characterized by the convergence of three major regional-scale faults: the Appleton Fault, Dog Bay Line, and Joe Batts Pond Fault. These faults are known to host significant gold mineralization.
The project area is underexplored, with modern geophysical techniques like VTEM surveys recently applied.
Geological Features
- The property is underlain by Cambrian to Ordovician ophiolitic ultramafic rocks, Ordovician felsic to intermediate volcanics, and siliciclastic sediments, as well as marine siliciclastic sediments of the Davidsville Group.
- Structurally complex, with multiple fault intersections providing potential pathways for mineralizing fluids.
Historical Exploration & Results
- 2009: Alterra Resources completed drilling at the Katie Prospect, yielding the significant VMS results mentioned above
Exploration Activities
- 2021: A VTEM airborne geophysical survey covered 6,839 line-km, mapping deep structural targets
- 2021 – 2023: Localized soil sampling and rock grab sampling programs were conducted over areas deemed structurally complex from geophysical interpretation
- Focused on delineating gold targets along the key structural corridors identified through VTEM and other geophysical surveys
Drill Results
- Historic drill results primarily focused on VMS-style mineralization, with gold as a secondary target.
- Further drilling is needed to target and explore deeper structures identified through recent geophysical surveys.
Accessibility
Easily accessible via the Bay d’Espoir Highway, which connects the property to regional centers like Bishops Falls. Additional access through forestry roads facilitates exploration activities.
